Tunisia...
Vandal stared at the artifact in front of him, he could feel his heart rate begin to quicken in his chest. He had not thought that the world still had the ability to excite him or make him nervous, but – every now and then – he came across something or a situation that made him feel again.
Five weeks. It had taken him five long weeks in the future to put together his plan. To pin point exactly what year to journey back in time to and to calculate exactly the location that would make the most sense. That part was easy. The part that took the longest – the part that caused him to hide in the future like a sewer rat while the Justice League searched high and low for him – had been finding the weapon that would be the lynchpin of his entire plan.
He was not a fool. One did not live to be as old as he was without being the smartest man in any world or universe. He knew that he had planned to eliminate the Justice League in the past and had been unsuccessful each time. Vandal knew that, this time, his plans had to be flawless. He had to predict every move like a great chess match with checkmate being planned ten moves ahead. To accomplish that, he would need the correct pieces, of course. The pawns would need to be put forth ever so carefully. His knights and key pieces selected with precision. They would not know, of course, that they could be sacrificed at any time.
And then, of course, there was the most important piece of them all. His heart pounding ever so slightly, he reached out to pick up the artifact that had led him to this forsaken tomb.
The piece that would lead him to ruling the world.
