GENERAL OVERVIEW AND PERSONALITY
- Diana is very warm hearted; raised by a race of warriors, she is not able to show her affections very easily. When she becomes friends with someone, she is fiercely loyal to them and she has a sense of humor that becomes apparent when she is comfortable with someone
- Diana is still adjusting to living in “man’s world” and is frequently unable to understand pop cultural references that her COGNOS co-workers throw her way.
- Injustice angers her and she believes in the power of truth; her primary aim as an agent, Wonder Woman, and ambassador is to achieve world peace
- Diana's super-human strength, immortality, and tall build make her feel that there is no man who would be capable of being a relationship with her and, for that reason, she has not dated anyone since ending her relationship with Steven Trevor; she often feels very lonely
- She still misses her home, Themyscira, but feels she cannot go back while the world still needs Wonder Woman.
- While she is known for being a beautiful woman, she is modest about her looks and does not like it when people focus on it
- Diana takes the idea of women’s rights very seriously. In particular, if she sees a woman being abused or taken advantage of by a man, she will not let the issue go until she feels the man has been brought to justice and the woman has the strength and ability to fight for herself. However, when Wonder Woman was labeled a feminist by press, she was baffled by the term because she comes from a world consisting of female warriors; to Wonder Woman, every woman is the embodiment of strength and empowerment.
- She has a high amount of respect for the sanctity of human life; she is not averse to killing if she feels the end justifies the means. However,as of yet, she has not killed anyone.
- She is an expert horsewoman and loves animals.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
- Because of her childhood, Diana loves to spar and practice her fighting skills.
- After living the United States for awhile, she decided that to learn more about American culture she should watch TV and movies. That decision led to her developing a love of classic TV shows and old movies such as “Gone With the Wind”.
- She loves to spend time reading and is currently reading through the entire works of Shakespeare.
- As Diana Prince, she volunteers at a women’s shelter where she teaches self-defense classes.
KNOWN POWERS
- Super strength : It is said to have been gifted by Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and fertility; She is strong enough to lift buildings and an entire railroad train. She is not invulnerable, but can withstand great physical strain and injuries because her skin heals faster than mere mortals
- Immortality: While Diana can be killed, Amazons are gifted by long life from the gods and are known to live for four to five thousand years
- Enhanced intelligence: Said to be gifted by Athena, goddess of wisdom and war, Diane possesses great wisdom, intelligence, and military prowess; this super-power makes it possible for Diana to master over a dozen languages (including those of alien origin), multiple complex crafts, sciences and philosophies, as well as leadership, military strategy, and armed and unarmed combat. She also possesses a photographic memory and can read at a much faster speed than a mere mortal
- Enhanced vision and hearing: Said to have been gifted by Artemis, goddess of the hunt, animals, and the moon, Diana possesses telescopic vision, super-hearing, and the ability to talk to animals
- The ability to detect when one is lying: Diana has control over the “Fires of Truth” (said to have been gifted to her by Apollo, god of the sun); Diana wields this power through her lasso, making anyone bound by it unable to lie. This ability also grants her resistance to both normal and supernatural fire.
- Superhuman speed: It is said to have been gifted to her by Hermes, the messenger god of speed); She is one of the fastest human beings in the world (although not as fast as the Flash). She is swift enough to deflect bullets, lasers, and other projectiles with her virtually impenetrable bracelets. Her brain can process information at an incredibly fast rate.
- Flight: It is said to have been gifted to her by Zeus; Diana can mystically defy the laws of gravity and propel herself through the air to achieve flight. She is capable of flying at speeds approaching half the speed of light.
In addition to her natural superpowers, Wonder Woman’s uniform possesses weapons that aid her in her battles:
- Bulletproof Bracelets: these allow Wonder Woman to deflect automatic weapon fire and energy blasts. Diana can also slam the bracelets together to create a wave of concussive force.
- Lasso of Truth: It is virtually indestructible; The Lasso burns with a magical aura called the Fires of Hestia, forcing anyone within the Lasso's confines to be truthful. Diana wields the lasso with great precision and accuracy and can use it as a whip or noose.
- Golden Tiara: doubles as a dagger and a throwing weapon, returning to her like a boomerang.
WEAKNESSES
While Diana’s abilities make her one of the most powerful women in the world, she is not immortal; super humans who either match or exceed her power can inflict pain on her and cause permanent damage. She is highly vulnerable to magic and since it is hypothesized that her powers come from Greek gods, she is also known to be highly susceptible to any weapons that can be used against the gods.
HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY
Diana was born on the island of Themyscira to Queen Hippolyta, the ruler of the Amazons. It is widely accepted by all Amazonian warriors that Diana will inherit the throne and, as such, she is referred to as Princess Diana by many of her people.
It is not known exactly who Diana’s father is. As a child, she heard many versions of the story: some said that she was a gift from the goddess Hera, who heard Hippolyta’s prayers for a child and, as a reward for being a devoted servant, created Diana from the sand of the sea shore and imbued the infant’s soul with the spirit of the gods. Others said that she was the child of a god; a result of the union between Hippoltya and a powerful god such as Poseidon, Ares, or Apollo. Some argued that it would have taken Zeus himself to produce such a powerful being as Diana. Hippoltya confirms who the father was or even if a father existed. She insists that Diana is only her child and needs no other parent.
When Diana asks her mother for the truth, Hippoltya will only say that she was a gift and her super-powers were each granted from the gods who held such power. For that reason, great myth and legend arose to explain Diana’s abilities: it was said that many powerful gods and goddesses each gave her special gifts that resulted in her super-powers. Diana has never had interaction with any of these goddesses or gods so she has not been able to confirm if there is any truth to the legend.
As a child, Diana trained with the other Amazons. Amazonian warriors pride themselves on their abilities to fight and on their wisdom and Hippolyta, knowing that her child would one day rule the island, expected Diana to a masterful athlete, fighter, and strategist and to best everyone who would one day serve under her command.
Diana loves her mother fiercely and works hard to live up to her mother’s expectations. Even with the high expectations and hard work expected from her, Diana grows up a happy child and never thinks she will see the world beyond the Island of Themyscira. While other Amazonian warriors yearn to see “man’s world”, Diana is content to stay on her mother’s island and with her own people.
Her stance changes when an American fighter pilot, Steve Trevor is shot down and crash-lands on the island, where he soon runs afoul of the Amazon population. Since Steve Trevor is the first man Diana has ever met, he and the stories he tells her of the world outside of Themyscira fascinate Diana. When Hippolyta decides Trevor should be returned home, Diana volunteers immediately, but her mother argues that she does not have enough experience in dealing with the dangers of the outside world to go with him. Hippolyta forbids Diana from leaving the island and then announces that there will be a match to decide which Amazon will return Trevor back to his world.
Diana defies her mother and, her face hidden by a helmet, wins the right to take Trevor back to his home. Hippolyta, who had given her word that winner of the match would be able to go, cannot forbid Diana from going. However, she makes it clear to Diana that that she expects Diana to return to the island immediately and resume her duties as the heir to the throne. Diana fully intends to follow her mother’s edict, but upon entering the outside world, she quickly realizes that Trevor’s assignment is somehow linked to a sinister plot that has been put into effect by Ares, the god of war.
When Ares and his army attack Washington, DC and take control of the President of the United States, Trevor and Diana arrive to battle Ares and are soon joined by the Amazons. With the help of one of Diana’s Amazonian sisters, Ares manages to summon the Amazons long dead from the Underworld to fight their own sisters. Meanwhile, the President is influenced by Ares's power and orders a nuclear missile against Themyscira. This act of supreme aggression increases Ares's power, but Trevor flies Diana’s invisible jet and shoots down the missile just before it hits the island. Finally, after a brutal beating at Ares's hands, Diana finally outwits and kills him. Subsequently, Ares is condemned to the underworld to attend Hades as a slave alongside his son.
True to her word, Diana returns to Themyscira to stay by her mother’s side. After a few months pass, Hippolyta realizes that Diana misses both the outside world and Trevor, and to make her happy again, she charges her daughter to become a diplomat for the Amazons. Diana accepts and returns to the world of men.
Once she’s back in the United States, the President makes her a citizen in recognition of her service to the nation and asks her to join an organization called COGNOS. COGNOS, a division of the FBI, specializes in “out of the ordinary cases” involving magic and other worldly beings that the government prefers to keep a secret from the general public. Only a few key members of the government know of the agency and it’s investigations. Knowing she can do much good with her knowledge and superpowers, Diana accepts a position with the agency and they create her alter ego: Agent Diana Prince. Diana Prince is an orphan who was born and raised in Washington DC in the foster care system and who became an FBI agent right out of college. She continues to be “Wonder Woman” when she feels Wonder Woman is needed and only three people know that she is Wonder Woman: the President of the United States, Steven Trevor, and the head of the COGNOS unit of the FBI.
Steven Trevor realizes that there is an entire world out there that he doesn't know and when he's also recruited by COGNOS, he accepts. He joins the FBI as an agent after retiring from the Air Force.
Diana and Trevor attempt to have a romantic relationship, but many factors make it almost impossible. Although both care for each other very much and continue to work together closely, they mutually decide that it would better for them to stop seeing each other.
