With a deep groan, Diana pulled her pillow over her ears, hoping to muffle the offensive sound disturbing her sleep.

“Damn you, super hearing.” With a muffled curse, she flung the pillow off her face and towards the far wall. Rolling over, she reached for the cell phone and checked the name. Jason Waldron.
With a deep sigh, she sat up on the bed and hit the “answer” button. “Yes, this is Prince,” she stated in a crisp, professional voice.
“Agent Prince. I’m glad I caught you.” Her boss’s tone was his typical, brisk one; if he could tell that she’d been asleep a mere thirty seconds before, he made no show of it. “I’ll need you to come in today.”
Diana pulled the phone away from her ear to glance down at the display clock on the phone. Sure enough, it was Wednesday. Her day off. She put the phone back to her ear. “Sir, I would normally be happy to come in, but I…” Diana hesitated, wondering how much she should explain about Wonder Woman’s activites the night before“… I had a late night,” she finished, weakly.
“Yes, well, we all have late nights, Agent.”
Diana’s gaze fell on her red and blue costume she’d thrown onto the settee right before she’d climbed into bed earlier. It was unlikely that most people had nights like hers, but it wouldn’t have helped to point that out to her boss. He was supportive of her “moonlighting”, as he put it, until it got in the way of what he considered to be her “day job”. She’d once tried to explain to him that she considered being Wonder Woman her day and night job, but Trevor had told her that she was taking Waldron too literally. Apparently, Waldron just wanted the FBI to be her number one priority no matter what time of day it was. If that was the case, she wished he would just put it that way.
“I’ll be there in ten minutes,” she told him, knowing that arguing was futile.
“Make it five,” he answered, curtly. “I know you can.”
Diana rolled her eyes. Sure, he hated Wonder Woman when she got in the way of work, but the second Waldron could use her powers to his advantage, he went for it. Without saying good-bye, he disconnected the phone and Diana sat there for a moment staring down at the offensive bit of technology.
Even though Waldron had insisted on haste, Diana took while getting out of bed. She cast aside her white comforter and flung her legs over the side of the bed. Stretching a bit, she winced when she felt a bone pop in response. That must have been when Cheetah had thrown her into the brick building. Come to think of it, she had felt something crack at the time. Taking a moment, she walked towards the balcony doors and flung them open, letting the brisk, cold air flow into the room and stared up a the sky. The morning light was typical of Washington DC in the winter: a dull, blue color. It was far cry from the brilliant sky of Themyscira, but it would do. The one regret she did have was that her apartment was not near the sea; she would have loved to have doors that led to a beach and open water.
Every time she thought of it, she always considered taking the transfer to the Los Angeles offices. Then she looked around her small apartment and decided against it. For better or worse, this was now her home. Each piece of furniture lovingly chosen and the combination of pale green and white creating a peaceful space to come home to; she’d created this home with Steve. Even if Steve never came around anymore, she couldn’t imagine a different one.
Her eyes fell on the Wonder Woman costume she’d thrown aside and she picked it up. As she suspected, one strap had been torn off and there was a huge rip in the skirt. One top of that, the entire garment was filthy. Mentally adding “drop suit off at special drycleaner” to her to-do list, she padded over to the bathroom and turned the water on. She’d just have to wear one of her back-up suits under her FBI clothes.
After all, she only had three minutes left to get to work. And Waldron hated it when she was late.
