HISTORY AND BIOGRAPHY
Bruce's greatest defining moment was watching his parents' murder when he was a small child. Always a quiet and introverted boy, he grew even more so once he was orphaned, with no other family. However, his family butler, Alfred, took him into his care, watched out for him, and cared for him. At one point, Bruce admitted to Alfred that he felt to blame for his parents' deaths.
Never able to put his family's murder behind him, Bruce became adrift and traveled the world in pursuit of a purpose. He even spent some time in a Chinese prison, regularly fighting as many as 6 to 1. It was during this time that he was approached by Henri Ducard, who offered Bruce a place in the League of Shadows - a collective of vigilantes and assassins. Bruce agreed, hoping the League could show him a path to true justice.
Bruce passed the League's tests and trained with them, honing his skills and becoming a fearsome hand-to-hand combatant. It is at this time that he learned the uses of fear as a weapon, ninjutsu, combat theatricality, and deception. He exposed himself to various poisons and toxins, as part of his training and was trained to take on entire armies of enemies.
Bruce proved to be an apt pupil and was offered a position as a full member of the League, but he found he couldn't perform the final task - executing a prisoner. Upon discovering the League's plan to raze Gotham City to the ground, Bruce burned down the League's headquarters and escaped.
Returning to Gotham, Bruce revealed to Alfred his decision to fight the Gotham underworld by taking on a new persona, one that all criminals will fear. As Bruce had always feared bats, he would use the image of the bat to inspire fear in others. He discovered a cave, connected to the lowest foundations of Wayne Manor, and established the cave as his base of operations.
Bruce returned to Wayne Enterprises, requesting a job in Applied Sciences, where he worked with Lucius Fox, who would later come to know of Bruce's moonlighting as Batman and assist him in his nocturnal endeavors. With Lucius's help, Bruce acquired much of the technology he would modify to use as Batman. Around this time, he also came to to understand the importance of using Bruce Wayne as a "mask" to hide the identity of Batman from the world. To this end, he began to cultivate his "irresponsible playboy" image.
When Ra's al Ghul, leader of the League of Shadows, reappeared to threaten Gotham, Bruce fought him, claiming that Gotham wasn't beyond saving. He defeated the League and thwarted their plans to destroy Gotham, allowing Ra's al Ghul to die in the process (though not technically killing him).
Batman's next great challenge came in the form of the Joker, an insane sociopath who was more driven by the pursuit of chaos than material gain. As Alfred explained, some men can't be reasoned with, they don't want anything in particular; they just want to watch the world burn. After Joker went on a killing spree, promising to continue to kill until the Batman revealed his secret identity, Bruce resolved to do so, against Alfred's advice. Bruce destroyed much of his equipment, in order to protect those closest to him, and explained that Batman couldn't endure the responsibility for innocents dying. However, before he could reveal his identity, District Attorney Harvey Dent stepped forward, claiming to be the Batman.
Harvey Dent was revealed to be working with the Batman, allowing himself to get arrested in order to trap the Joker. However, the Joker managed to capture Harvey, just when Batman believed the DA was safe. When Batman tried to rescue him from an explosion, Dent's face was severely scarred, turning him into the criminal Two-Face. After Joker and Two-Face team up, Batman turned to unethical methods to defeat them. He used equipment that turned every cell phone in the city into a sonar device, essentially spying on everyone in Gotham.
Batman defeated the Joker, who revealed that his real plan was to bring down Gotham's "White Knight" - Harvey Dent - creating chaos by showing that even a good man could be taken down the path of corruption and evil. Batman tried to stop Two-Face but was forced to let him fall to his death in order to rescue an innocent boy.
Batman realized that Gotham needed the symbol of hope and faith that Harvey had given them, more than they needed to believe in the Batman. He realized the Batman had to be something besides a hero; he had to be a figure outside of the system that the people could turn to or blame in times of need. He took the blame for Harvey's killings and a manhunt was issued for him.. As Commissioner Gordon explained to his son, the boy Batman had saved, "[Batman's] the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight."
Batman currently remains a vigilante and fugitive for justice, fighting criminals while eluding the police, who are still trying to hunt him down.

GENERAL OVERVIEW AND PERSONALITY
- As Bruce, he is a very charming, self-absorbed, superficial, and irresponsible playboy and industrialist. This is largely an act. As Batman, he is extremely driven, with a personal vendetta against criminals. He is obsessive about his duties as Batman.
- Bruce has a great love for humanity which was instilled in him by his parents. His father was a doctor with high ideals. Bruce's oath of vengeance is tempered with the greater ideal of justice.
- Although he is a "darker" hero, Bruce refuses to kill, as he believes this would make him no better than the criminals he fights.
- He attracts people (particularly women) easily as Bruce, though this could be as much due to his money as due to his personality. As Batman, he is intimidating and even other heroes are a little wary of him.
- Bruce is incredibly intelligent and can be ruthless about pursuing his ends. Though some believe he is uncaring, this is not actually true. However, he is willing to do what needs to be done, even when his actions might be misunderstood.
- He has difficulty with personal relationships. In part, this is because of the necessity of keeping his alter-ego secret. However, it is also because he has a hard time expressing his emotions, even to those he cares the most about. He can love - even deeply - but it is harder for him to do so after the death of his parents.
- His personal quest for vengeance makes him feel very isolated, even from other heroes. Though he has had a series of brief love affairs, he has never been in a serious romantic relationship.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
- As Bruce, most of his hobbies are for show. A good sportsman, he is adept at activities like horseback riding and polo. Bruce also indulges in fast cars and faster women. In reality, he engages in activities that hone his skills as Batman and has a hard time relaxing enough to enjoy any hobby.
KNOWN POWERS
Batman is human and does not technically have any superpowers. However, he has spent years training his body, so that his abilities are nearly superhuman. They are as follows:
- Indomitable Will: Although he has no superhuman powers, Batman's unstoppable determination and strength of will make him an extremely formidable opponent. This makes him able to function while tolerating massive amounts of physical pain, and also allows him to resist telepathy or mind control. His willpower is strong enough to operate a Green Lantern Ring when necessary.
- Intimidation: It is widely known that Batman has the ability to instill fear in others, even the people that know him best are intimidated by him. Even those who aren't afraid of the likes of Superman fear Batman. Of course, in part this is because Batman is willing to cross lines that Superman wouldn't cross.
- Interrogation: Batman is adept in interrogation techniques, often using law enforcement methods as well as torture. Several methods seen include hanging a person over the edge of a building by one leg or chaining a person upside down and beating them. He usually just plain uses his frightening appearance to get answers, believing "fear is an excellent motivator." In fact, he chose the persona of the Batman because he feared bats, himself, and knew the power fear could have over others.
- Peak Human Conditioning: Through intense training, specialized diet, and biofeedback treatments, Batman represented the pinnacle of human physical prowess. Strength, speed, stamina, agility, endurance, reflexes and coordination are at peak human perfection. Batman has performed amazing physical feats due to his superior physique. He engaged in an intensive regular regimen of rigorous exercise (including aerobics, weight lifting, gymnastics, and simulated combat) to keep himself in peak condition, and has defeated opponents whose size, strength, or other powers greatly exceeded his own. He participates in constant intensive training and determination in further pursuit of physical perfection.
- Genius-Level Intellect: Batman is a brilliant detective, strategist, scientist, tactician, and commander; he is widely regarded as one of the keenest analytical minds on the planet. Given his lack of superpowers, he often uses cunning and planning to outwit his foes, rather than simply "out-fighting" them.
- Master Acrobat: He is proficient in gymnastics and acrobatics.
- Master Martial Artist: Wayne is well trained in multiple martial arts. His primary form of combat is an idiosyncratic admixture of Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Muay Thai, Dragon Style Kung Fu, Boxing, Jujitsu, and Ninjitsu.
- Weapons Master: Through his martial arts training, he has become an expert on all melee weapons. Wayne has displayed exceptional sword fighting capability and proficiency with knives, sticks and various other weapons. He practices during his combat sessions to keep his skills intact, but he prefers unarmed combat.
- Master of Stealth: His Ninjutsu training with the League of Shadows has made him a master at stealth and capable of breaching high security facilities without being detected.
- Expert Marksman: Wayne is an expert marksman skilled. He is skilled with throwing projectile weapons, archery and firearms. He has been practicing such skills since the early days of his training.
- Master Detective: He is widely considered an incredible detective, capable of observation, forensic investigation, and inductive and deductive reasoning of the highest caliber.
- Multi-lingual: He is able to speak Spanish, French, Latin, German, Japanese, English, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek, Portuguese, Arabic, and possibly more.
- Master Tactician and Strategist: He commonly utilizes cunning tactics to outwit his foes. He is an excellent leader, though, as a natural loner, he is not keen to challenge Superman for the position.
His costume gives him the following advantages:
- Batsuit: The costume Batman wears is composed by Kevlar and a little percentage of titanium; it's bullet-proof and resistant to various types of attack (explosions, impacts, falls, etc...). It's also flame-retarding and insulating. The gloves and the boots are reinforced to rebound the impact of punches and kicks. The gloves have also some metallic blades on their sides. The cape can be used to glide. The mask has a little percentage of lead, which shields the face of Batman from x-ray powers or x-ray technology; it has also an infrared viewer and auditory sensors, sonar, night vision, which improve Batman's senses.
- Utility Belt: Batman keeps most of his personal field equipment in a signature piece of apparel, a yellow utility belt. It is equipped with various devices, including batarangs and grapple hooks.
- Batmobile: Batman basically drives a tank, complete with artillery and wheels that allow him to do "rampless jumps."
